Red Tide Response

St Pete Beach Red Tide Response

For information about Red Tide visit the Florida Fish and Wildlife website.

City staff will be collecting dead fish in the wrack line on the gulf beach every day for as long as the Red Tide persists. However, as the tides cycle through the day the wave action will wash dead fish up on the beach continuously. Therefore, our collection will not result in a truly clean beach but our efforts will help keep the accumulation down.

Residents

Residents on the Bay side of the island can call Public Works at 727-363-9243 for a Red Tide collection service. Place the dead fish in a heavy-duty plastic bag closed tightly on the curb for collection. Leave your address with our receptionist or on our voice mail. Collection will be Monday through Friday starting at 2 pm.

Hotels, Condos and residents on the Gulf who would like to assist in the collection effort can do so by placing the dead fish in a heavy-duty plastic bag closed tightly and leaving the bag at the nearest public trash can on the beach. City staff will collect the bags during the daily beach collection run.

Please place dead fish in a separate bag so they can be collected and disposed of in a designated area of the County landfill.

Hotels

Hoteliers and Condo Associations who would like to assist in the collection effort can call Public Works at 363-9243 for the nearest dumpster container location to deposit dead fish in directly. The City has coordinated with Waste Connections for additional containers specifically dedicated to the Red Tide effort. All fish collected should be in heavy-duty plastic bags closed tightly
